Getting Help to Keep Your Children Healthy

Idaho Health Plan Coverage: Children Health Insurance Plan (CHIP)/Medicaid

The Children’s Health Insurance Program or CHIP is a low-cost health coverage program for children under age 19 whose family income is too high to qualify for Medicaid.  There may be a small monthly premium ($10 or $15, depending on income) for each child enrolled in CHIP.

To qualify, a child must live in Idaho and be:

  • Under the age of 19
  • A U.S. citizen or legal resident
  • Within family income guidelines

Children enrolled in private health insurance are not eligible for CHIP.

If you are not determined eligible for CHIP, you still may be eligible for other Health Coverage Assistance programs. To get more information regarding other programs, visit the Health Coverage Assistance page.
