Art Contest Celebrates KinCare Families
Idaho children living in KinCare with relatives share their feelings of love and gratitude for their caregivers through poems, essays and drawings in the second annual My Family. My Story. art contest. The children’s art work will be celebrated across the state during Idaho KinCare Family Day on Friday, July 20th.
In Idaho, more than 23,000 children live in households headed by grandparents or other relatives. Despite significant challenges and painful losses, KinCare families demonstrate love, perseverance, courage, creativity and faith on behalf of children who might otherwise be in foster care. The My Family. My Story. art contest recognizes the contributions of these relative caregivers and provides the children who participate an opportunity to feel connected with other children in similar situations.
“If it was not for her, I would be living with a stranger.” Kimberly, age 10
The 211/Navigation Idaho VISTA KinCare Project and community partners sponsored the statewide art contest exclusively for KinCare families. Children from across the state sent in their poems, short essays, and drawings that described how living with someone other than their parents has made a positive difference in their lives.
