Family Support Program

Family Support is available to Idaho families who care for a child or adult family members with a developmental disability in their home. A developmental disability is a significant mental and/or physical impairment which occurs prior to the age of 22. The Regional Developmental Disabilities Program will determine eligibility.

Family Support is based on the need for services and is available regardless of family income or eligibility for other services.

Family Support provides funds to assist families to care for family members with developmental disabilities in their homes. It may be used to purchase:

    • Respite care (provides brief periods of care for people with developmental disabilities
    • Specialized evaluations
    • Adaptive equipment
    • Therapies
    • Specialized clothing
    • Housing modifications
    • Similar or related costs

Family Support is intended to promote and enhance the family's capacity to provide care for individuals with developmental disabilities.

To apply for Family support, families complete a one-page application describing services and/or amount requested, reason supports are needed, expected benefits, and other resources considered.
