Healthy Eating, Active Living (HEAL) Idaho is a voluntary network of organizations, agencies, businesses, and individuals committed to creating an environment where all Idahoans can live a healthy, active life! HEAL Idaho’s framework is made up of five subcommittees that identify the essentials for Idahoans to live healthier, more active lifestyles.
The five subcommittees center on the essential ingredients for good health which include physical activity and healthy eating. Many Idahoans lack access to physical activity or healthy nutrition options, and in some cases both! These gaps can contribute significantly to the development of obesity, high blood pressure, heart disease, cancer, and diabetes, which are the leading causes of disease and death among Idahoans.
The HEAL Idaho Network envisions communities where the healthy choice is the easy choice, fostered through collaboration and partnership. “Each subcommittee is led by an agency dedicated to statewide health improvement and focused in one specific area.” Subcommittee leads provide subject matter expertise by considering the applications of goals and actions through their cultural lens and conducting hands-on work to strengthen the HEAL Idaho framework. Each subcommittee helps develop statewide relationships and partnerships that will support an environment to influence policy development, cultural change, and the elimination of health disparities. HEAL Idaho members help develop and review subcommittee strategic directives and goals, and provide recommended actions.
HEAL members have the opportunity to connect with each other through annual regional meetings and a statewide summit. . These meetings allow for networking, education sharing, and working sessions to generate specific activities and methods for leveraging resources at the local level. Collectively, HEAL members work together to make progress on making the healthy choice the easy choice in their communities!
We invite you to become a HEAL Idaho member today! Together, through networking, sharing of information, and leveraging resources, we can achieve so much more!
